Weekly Update

Hello there! I said in the Twitter thing that I'd write a Weekly Update, so here I am, doing so!

Unfortunately though, I've got irritatingly little to report... Over the last few weeks, I've got basically nothing done due to Christmas and the New Year causing me stress, and making me feel unsettled and stuff like that...

Since that's over now, I've wanted to get back to work, but I'm trying to get back into a timetable thing that was working really well for me before, and it's causing difficulties, since my sleeping pattens were disrupted over Christmas, and readjusting your body clock is never easy. I think I'm fully adapted now, but for the last few weeks I've been really tired most of the time, yawning constantly, unable to focus, my eyelids and limbs were extremely heavy, etc, etc...

Excuses, excuses!

Anyway, I'll get back to work on Miasmon tomorrow. There's still an annoying amount of work left to do... and I've not really been eager to get around to it, since it's mostly stuff I have been putting off due to disinterest and the tediousness of it.

I still haven't done any of the music for the game, and I think that's putting me off a lot. I mean, I really like doing the music for my games, and playing them feels so empty without any music. Usually, I'll do at least some of the music early on, since it makes the development from then on a lot more exciting.
But I've been struggling with the Miasmon music for months... I just seem to be having more difficulty getting a Main Theme than I have with my other games. I've tried dozens of times, but nothing sounds exactly right... I know what I want, but it's hard to get it just right.
I'm not looking for advice, and I know what I'm doing; I go through this with music quite often, and always get there eventually, with enough tries... It's just taking longer than usual this time, annoyingly.
Once the Main Theme is in place, the rest should come quite easily though. I could probably finish the whole soundtrack in about a week once I'd got going.

I'm sorry that I don't have anything much to say about game progress... I was making great progress before Christmas though, and want to get back to that, and will, next week!

I HAVE however added some stuff to this site which may be of interest to you.
You can now add additional information to your profile:

You can add your Job... I know that a lot of members are too young to have a job though, so I also added a 'Dream Job' thing, which is the job you'd LIKE to have. This still applies even if you have a job, of course! Things like this say a lot about a person, I think.

You can also add your 'Political Ideology'. I know nothing about politics myself, so this thing is largely useless to me, but I understand that it's important to other people, and says a lot about people.

You can add your academic interests, too. These are your school/university subjects that you study or studied, or which you prefer above others. Are you into Maths and Physics, or History and Literature? These things say a lot about a person too, I think.
I know that the Interests could be used for listing such things, but I think that having this separate section for it will be of interest too.

Finally, I've reintroduced the 'Irregularities' thing from the old site... I know that some people thought it was creepy and awkward, since the idea of even suggesting that anyone is flawed or abnormal in any way is taboo or something. But why should we not acknowledge things that are a massive part of peoples' lives and personalities?
I mean, my Social Anxiety is much of who I am, and it affects how I think and act. By openly mentioning that I have it, I can explain my behaviour better, and maybe even find people with the same issue that I can relate to.
This site has always attracted a lot of people with things like Asperger's too, and since these things are aspects now, I'll be curious about how 'popular' such conditions end up being.

Please use that section only for serious, named conditions though. Being wheelchair-bound, or having Asperger's, is notable, but having a double-jointed thumb or being 'slightly autistic' by your own assessment isn't worth mentioning.
The point of them is to create groups that other people will be a part of, like with all aspects. So if you add Asperger's, then you can see what other people have added Asperger's too from the aspect page. It's unlikely though that multiple people will add specific and trivial things like "sometimes my left shoulder hurts a bit".

Oh, and you can also add or remove Interest-type aspects to your Likes or Hates from their individual aspect pages. This only works with Interests though; not any other kind of aspect.

I hope you enjoy this immensely!!111!1

I don't *think* anyone has posted this yet:

Although I enjoy the 'Random Member' thing for strange reasons, I wonder why you made it in the first place. Just for entertaining members? It seemed sort of 'silly' which is why I asked.

Have to say that I'm feeling a little like this weekly update. School started on the sixth and the mental aptitude test starts quite soon. I'm doing some revision, but nothing seems to get in that brain. Anyway, the new profile info boxes look interesting. Personally, my extremities (hands and feet, etc.) are always cold for some reason, even slightly in summer. Okay, time to fead those boxes with information about my terrible scale-skin disease! (If thats possible...)

I was just wondering are the ads that pop up on the side anyway related to things you fill out in your personality section? Because after I added Agoraphobia to my Irregularities section I noticed an ad that was offering self help for panic attacks and how to stay out of panic attacks.

Great site update!

Is it just me, or does autocomplete not work for jobs?

Uh, even though you didn't just add the height and weight section, I'm kind of curious about something that keeps happening when I fill it out (which I finally got around to doing today). When I enter my height, 5 feet 3 inches, 160 cm shows up in the box for the metric system measure, which is correct, as 5'3" is 160.02 cm. Yet when I look at my profile, it reads "160 cm / 5'2""... could that .02 cm be messing it up or something, or am I filling in the information wrong? I know an inch doesn't sound like a lot but it's actually sort of bothering me because it's incorrect... ._."

I had a similar problem, but if you enter 161 cm, your height should be corrected... I would imagine this issue arises because the database stores the height as "160 cm" instead of 160.02 cm, and when the height is converted back it comes just short of 5'3'', and rounds down...

I don't think there's much else you can do about it for now, unfortunately.

That works, thanks! I must say I am glad it was the decimal causing this to happen rather than me managing to mess up the numbers somehow. xD

Thanks for the additions! I have no interest in politics or "irregularities", but the rest are quite handy to me. I have a question regarding Academic Interests, though (aside from where they appear on your profile).
I assume we should list the classes themselves, as opposed to the fields of study to which they relate; I saw that computing was a class already entered, so I chose it as opposed to computer science. Does each class entered create a new page, similar to regular interests? Should we avoid redundancy?
Anyway, thanks much for the hard work. You've been much more productive than I've been on my break from school...

They work like any aspects, and DO create new pages which can be seen here: ∞ Fig Hunter ∞
So redundancy should definitely be avoided.

They shouldn't be too specific though, I was expecting the names of subjects rather than classes. I don't understand the difference between 'Computing' and 'Computer Science' personally; they seem synonymous to me.

Interesting new features! I have noticed, however, that the Academic Interests don't seem to be displayed anywhere on peoples' userpages.
Maybe I am just missing something, though...

My question bears some similarity to Scintilla's opinion. For "irregularities," do they have to be diagnosed by a professional? Otherwise people will start self-diagnosing themselves and come up with things like "autism" or "bipolar" (maybe even "nymphomania" :3). Where do we draw the line between using the irregularities properly and not?

The profiles are nothing more than a way in which people present themselves; they don't necessarily have to be factually accurate in order to tell you about the person. I'd prefer they were serious and properly diagnosed, but if some 14-year-old has listed that they have depression, they're bipolar, have Asperger's, and ADHD, even if those things aren't true, it'll still paint a picture of them, if you know what I mean.
It's like seeing someone with a height of 5'4" and a weight of 200lbs, but a build listed as 'Slim'... It's likely not factually accurate, but tells you a whole lot about the person anyway.

I have to say I'm not fond of the Irregularities section. No, not because of the whole 'stop using those things to define you!' thing, this time, but the idea that people sort of require a recognizable irregularity to make them interesting. As someone who doesn't have any such diagnosed mental conditions (though I suspect myself of having one or two), I don't like to think that makes me normal or mundane. The fact that the option in the Settings page is actually called "What makes you special?" just intensifies that. And it rather annoys me when people, especially young teenagers and such, take pride in having things like depression as if they're different and transcendent and maybe deserving of special treatment because of it--

I agree with this as I have my own 'quirks' that aren't medical conditions but most definitely are irregularities. For example would it be appropriate for me to list my third nipple and my lopsided ribcage (seriously my lower ribcage is REALLY wonky) or would they be worth a telling off because they aren't mental afflictions? I'd say it rather makes the section seem more like a conversational 'get out of jail free card' as opposed to celebrating people's differences.

I can see what you mean, and don't disagree with you, though I hadn't thought of it this way myself.
I didn't add it as something that everyone would have to fill in with something; that's not the intention. Instead, it's meant as a way for people who do have some physical or mental condition or another to find people with the same thing... I've listed Social Anxiety under mine, for example, because I'd like to be able to click on the aspect and see which other members have it. It makes me feel less alone, or broken, or something, and might even lead to friendships forming, since being able to relate over some significant difficulty is a good way of forming emotional bonds with someone.

I suppose I never thought about how people with no disorder things would feel about it, that they might feel they HAVE to add something to make them distinct, or else they feel mundane... I used the word 'special' in inverted commas though, sort of facetiously, since that word - 'special - tends to be used euphemistically to refer to people with mental faults. I didn't actually mean to suggest that anyone who didn't have anything wrong with them was not remotely special.

Anyway, it's meant as a section that should be left empty UNLESS you're 'special' enough - probably in a negative, undesirable way that causes you significant hardships - to warrant the use of it. It's only one of many facets that you can edit on your profile, rather than the sole source of a person's interestingness.
It's not meant for everyone. Maybe I should be clearer about that in the descriptions...

I also want to say that I've always been annoyed by teenagers essentially bragging about their 'depression' or 'ADHD' or 'autism' even when they don't have any of them... >_>
