Beast Signer is a game based on Pokemon. A homage, of sorts. I consider the Pokemon games to be some of the best games ever designed, you see, and since I first played them, I've always wanted to attempt to make my own similar game. This is that attempt!
I've been working on this game on-and-off for about four years, probably... changing bits of it all the time, so the game as it is now is entirely different to how it was at the start.
Eventually, Beast Signer will be released in an unfinished form, being updated every week with more content. It won't be an MMO due to technical reasons, though their may be ways to interact with others and trade and so on using this website, perhaps.
Anyway, in the game, you catch and train 'beasts'. The setting is a post-apocalyptic world, where everything was destroyed in a great conflict referred to only as 'The War'. Of the survivors of The War, some scientists made a large 'virtual world' complex, where people hook themselves up to a machine and live out happier lives in virtual fantasies, with the real world being as barren and unlivable-in as it is.
The 'beasts' are a sort of mutation in the code of the virtual worlds, a 'virus' of sorts that started disrupting peoples' ways of life inside the machine. It was found that humans couldn't harm the beasts, seeing as they were of the machine itself whereas they were not, but the scientists found that they could modify the beast's code with a sort of 'signature' to control them, and they could use the 'signed' beasts to defeat and tame other beasts. This was how the original 'Signers' came into being, and they were sort of a police force within the virtual worlds. Peacekeepers.
It's been a while since then though, and the common people thought that signing and fighting with beasts seemed quite fun, so now it's just something that people do as a hobby.
You start the game as one who was not priveleged to live within the virtual worlds all your life; instead you live in a run-down shanty town in the barren post-apocalyptic wastes. However, you and a few of your friends get chosen by the Signer Authorities to become new 'Signer Elite' recruits... The 'Signer Elite' being a sort of continuation of the original Signers, who still serve as official peacekeepers who the inhabitants call on to help them with things that they can't be bothered to handle themselves.
Gameplay is similar to that of Pokemon, except that you use three beasts at once during battle (like an RPG party), and you yourself take part in battles too (though mainly as a supportive role to your beasts). There are 612 beasts to sign, with long evolution trees based on elements. Merging beasts to create new ones is an important aspect of the game.
